Flying Fish Cove is a sheltered west-facing bay on Norfolk Island, beloved for its calm, crystal-clear waters and easy shore entry. The cove is protected from prevailing winds, making it a go-to spot for snorkelers of all levels. The sandy floor gives way to rocky reef patches and bommies close to shore, where you'll find schools of tropical fish darting among the coral. The cove's protected setting means it's often the calmest option when other beaches are choppy, and the clear water offers excellent visibility for spotting the diverse marine life that calls this area home.

Low risk: Outgoing tide current
As the tide recedes, the water shallows over the reef and creates a gentle outgoing current that can pull snorkelers away from the shore.
Low risk: Boat traffic near jetty
Small boats occasionally use the jetty area, so snorkelers should stay clear of the boat ramp and jetty approach when vessels are present.
Low risk: Shallow reef at low tide
At low tide, sections of the reef become very shallow, posing a risk of coral cuts or scraping against jagged limestone.
