Flaherty's Beach is a stunning 7 km stretch of white sand on the southern Yorke Peninsula, nestled between Hardwicke Bay and Point Turton. Its crystal-clear, turquoise waters over shallow sandbars — naturally sun-warmed — create a perfect, sheltered environment for beginner snorkelers and families. The beach faces northwest and offers gentle, calm conditions with no surf, making it a rare gem for safe, relaxed snorkelling in South Australia. Recently named one of Australia's best beaches, it features white sandbars extending nearly 500 metres from the high-water mark, with warm shallow pools ideal for spotting small marine life.

Low risk: Vehicle traffic on beach
Flaherty's Beach is a formally recognised road where 4WD vehicles drive, park and set up awnings. Snorkelers must stay vigilant for moving vehicles, especially near the water's edge.
Low risk: Tidal sandbar changes
Sandbars shift with tides, changing water depth and exposure. Dodge tides can leave large areas very shallow or exposed, altering the snorkelling area.
Low risk: Hooded Plover nesting areas
Vulnerable Hooded Plovers nest between the high-water mark and dunes. Snorkelers accessing the beach must avoid marked nesting sites to protect this rare bird.
