The spot

Community-maintained

Community contribution: submitted by Daniel

Nestled at the southern end of Yanchep Lagoon, Fisherman's Hollow is a calm, protected snorkelling and swimming spot sheltered by a natural 400m reef barrier that keeps waves near non-existent. Shallow waist-deep pools at low tide are perfect for kids and beginners, while deeper holes and ledges closer to the reef reveal octopus, crayfish, cuttlefish, and schools of herring and whiting. The adjacent grassy area has BBQs, picnic tables, and easy access to public toilets and showers, making it an ideal family-friendly day out just 60km north of Perth.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Rip Current / Outflow Current

A strong current flows out of the lagoon into deeper water; swimmers should stay between the flags.

  • Moderate risk: Rip Current / Outflow Current (Jan-Apr)

Continued risk from the outflow current during the peak summer patrol season.

  • Moderate risk: Rip currents and outgoing outflow

Strong currents can flow out of the lagoon into deeper water, especially during rising winds and falling tides.

  • Low risk: Sharp Reef Drop-off

A sudden drop-off exists as you venture towards the outer reef, which can surprise weaker swimmers.

  • Low risk: Rising Winds

Afternoon sea breezes can pick up rapidly, making conditions choppier and increasing current strength.

  • Low risk: Waves Washing Over Reef

When snorkelling near the reef, waves can wash over unexpectedly, increasing fall risk on slippery rock.

  • Low risk: Sharp reef surface

The reef surface is sharp and slippery underfoot; aqua shoes are strongly recommended.

  • Low risk: Changing wind conditions

Afternoon sea breezes can pick up suddenly, creating choppy conditions and increasing the risk of being swept offshore.
