Tucked along the Manly Scenic Walkway, Fairlight Beach is a sheltered 80-metre pocket of coarse sand that offers a quieter, family-friendly alternative to nearby Shelly Beach. The real draw lies just offshore — a dense underwater kelp forest teeming with marine life, where schools of Stripey, Australian Mado, and Red Morwong dart among the fronds. The calm, harbour-protected waters are ideal for beginners, and the adjacent ocean rockpool adds to the appeal. Best explored at high tide when there's more clearance above the kelp canopy, this spot provides a uniquely immersive snorkelling experience within Sydney Harbour.

Low risk: Sea urchins
Sea urchins are present on the rocky seafloor; wear flippers or booties to avoid injury.
Low risk: Low tide shallows
Water becomes very shallow over the kelp forest at low tide, increasing risk of contact with kelp and rocky bottom.
Low risk: Rocky entry
The beach entry is somewhat rocky — mind your step when entering and exiting the water.
Low risk: Fishing activity
Fairlight sits near the North Harbour Aquatic Reserve boundary; anglers may be fishing behind the swimming pool area, posing a risk of stray hooks.
