Fairlight Beach is a sheltered harbour beach on Sydney's Northern Beaches, just a 15-minute walk from Manly Wharf. Its calm, protected waters are home to a dense kelp forest that creates a unique underwater snorkeling experience. The bay sits adjacent to the North Harbour Aquatic Reserve and offers a quieter alternative to busier Manly spots. Enter over the sandy beach — watch for rocks — and you'll immediately be surrounded by swaying kelp stems teeming with fish, rays, and octopus. Best snorkeled at high tide when there's ample clearance above the kelp canopy.

Moderate risk: Shallow Kelp at Low Tide
At low tide the kelp canopy rises very close to the surface, making swimming above it difficult and increasing the risk of entanglement.
Low risk: Sea Urchins
Present across the snorkel area; wearing flippers is advised to avoid stepping on them.
Low risk: Rocky Entry
The water entry area has scattered rocks and shells that can cause cuts or stubbed toes.
Low risk: Boat Traffic
The beach is in a harbour setting with occasional small craft traffic near the outer edges of the bay.
