Stretching from the Fleurieu Peninsula across to Kangaroo Island and the Coorong, Encounter Marine Park is a vast protected ocean wilderness just south of Adelaide. Its star snorkelling attraction is Port Noarlunga Reef Sanctuary Zone — a limestone barrier reef teeming with schools of reef fish, blue devil fish, and the elusive leafy sea dragon. Divers and snorkelers can follow an underwater diving trail, explore jetties, or discover the dramatic 'Drop-Off' at Snapper Point. With accessible shore-entry sites, sheltered coves, and sanctuary zones where fishing is prohibited, the marine life thrives undisturbed, offering world-class snorkelling for all levels.

Moderate risk: Rapid Head cliff edges
Steep, unstable cliff edges near Rapid Head sanctuary zone; keep well back from edges when accessing the coastline.
Low risk: Tidal currents at Port Noarlunga Reef
Strong tidal flows can sweep around the reef edges, particularly during outgoing tides; swimmers and snorkelers should stay aware of changing conditions.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Encounter Marine Park is popular for boating and fishing; stay clear of marked channels and boat ramps outside sanctuary zones.
Low risk: Exposed intertidal reef at low tide (Aldinga Reef)
Large reef platforms become exposed at low tide, creating sharp limestone edges and rockpools — wear protective footwear.
