Eli Creek is the largest freshwater creek on the eastern beach of K'gari (Fraser Island), pouring up to four million litres of crystal-clear, tannin-stained water per hour into the ocean. A raised boardwalk winds inland through lush ferns, banksia, and pandanus before the creek opens into a wide, shallow sandy channel perfect for floating back down to the beach. The current is gentle enough for a lazy drift, making this a unique freshwater snorkel and swim experience in a stunning island setting.

Moderate risk: Dingo presence on K'gari
K'gari (Fraser Island) is home to wild dingoes. Never feed them and keep food secured. Dingoes may approach visitors along the boardwalk and beach.
Moderate risk: 4WD beach traffic near creek mouth
The creek empties directly onto the Eastern Beach scenic drive, a highway for 4WD vehicles. Be aware of vehicle traffic when entering or exiting the water.
Low risk: Freshwater only — no marine life viewing
Eli Creek is a freshwater system; expect no coral or saltwater marine species. Snorkelers primarily enjoy the drift and clear water, not reef life.
Low risk: Soft sandy bottom with submerged logs
The creek bed is sandy but may contain submerged branches or debris washed in from the surrounding forest. Watch your footing.
Low risk: Variable creek depth
Depth varies with rainfall; sections can be shallow enough to bump into the bottom while floating. Use care near the mouth where depth changes quickly.

Getting in
Eli Creek is located along the Eastern Beach scenic drive on K'gari (Fraser Island), about 18 km north of the Eurong township. Access requires a 4WD vehicle as the beach is the main highway. Fraser Island is reachable by barge from River Heads (Hervey Bay) or Inskip Point (Rainbow Beach).
Limited beachside parking along the sand adjacent to the creek mouth. No formal sealed lot; park well above the high-tide line in the designated area.
Vehicle access permits to K'gari (Great Sandy National Park) are required — currently ~$56.20 per vehicle (subject to change). No additional fee for Eli Creek itself.
