Egg Rock is a premier dive and snorkel site in the Keppel Islands, part of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. This rocky outcrop lies within a Marine Park B Zone, granting it complete protection from fishing — resulting in an extraordinary abundance of marine life. Walls drop to 30m on the seaward side, with sprawling bommies between the individual rocks attracting schools of pelagic fish, massive coral trout, Barramundi Cod, and giant clownfish colonies in anemone beds up to 10m across. The protected status means reef fish grow to impressive sizes here, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking big fish encounters in pristine conditions.

Low risk: Tidal currents
Tidal currents can run strongly around the exposed eastern side of the island, particularly during ebb and flood tides.
Low risk: Swell and surge
Swell and surge from the Coral Sea can create challenging conditions at the exposed eastern end of the island.
Low risk: Sharp rock and reef
Sharp granite rock formations and reef edges can cause cuts if not careful.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Boat traffic in the channel between the Keppel Islands and Egg Rock requires awareness.
