Eastern View Reef sits off a dramatic stretch of Victoria's Surf Coast along the Great Ocean Road, where a diagonal scatter of rounded basalt boulders transitions into a dense crayweed forest just metres from shore. The reef's mix of old sandstone (west) and basalt (east) creates varied terrain with shallow gutters and overhangs. At only 2–5 m depth, this exposed south-south-east aspect site offers a wild, raw snorkeling experience when conditions align — rewarding bold explorers with encounters in the kelp beds on the rare flat, calm day. This is a true ocean reef, not a sheltered bay, giving it a frontier feel far from the typical pier snorkel.

High risk: Strong Rips
Persistent and often strong rip currents cut the inner surf bar every 300 m, resulting in up to 20 rips along the beach. Westerly winds intensify longshore and rip currents.
Moderate risk: Moderate to Large Swell
Exposed south-south-east aspect receives waves averaging 1.5 m from Bass Strait. The outer bar breaks in higher waves, making entry and exit risky for all but the most experienced.
Moderate risk: Southerly Wind Squalls
Onshore winds from the south can deteriorate conditions rapidly; only very calm days with light offshore north-westerly to north-easterly winds are acceptable.
Low risk: Changing Conditions
Conditions can turn quickly on this exposed coast. Good physical fitness is required for the swim back if the weather shifts.
