Eagle Nest Reef is a popular shore-access reef dive and snorkelling site on the Surf Coast near Aireys Inlet, Victoria. Situated in the Great Otway National Park region, this low-profile rocky reef extends from the shoreline into the Southern Ocean, offering depths of 1–10 metres. The reef platform is rich with rock crevices and gutters that hold abalone, crayfish, and a variety of temperate reef fish, making it a favourite for snorkellers, spearfishers, and underwater photographers. It is exposed to ocean swell and best visited on calm, low-swell days with good visibility.

Moderate risk: Ocean swell and surging waves
The reef is fully exposed to Southern Ocean swells. Surging waves over the shallow reef platform can sweep snorkellers off balance or into rocks.
Moderate risk: Strong rip currents
Rip currents can develop along the reef edges, particularly on an outgoing tide, pulling snorkellers away from the shore.
Low risk: Sharp reef and rock shelves
The reef is composed of sharp, barnacle-encrusted rock. Cuts and scrapes are common; sturdy footwear and protective clothing are recommended.
Low risk: Variable water visibility
Visibility can drop suddenly after rain or onshore winds, making navigation and buddy separation a risk.
