Tucked away at the southern end of North Tura Beach on the Sapphire Coast, Dolphin Cove is a quiet, discreet pocket of golden sand and crystal-clear waters north of Merimbula. On calm days the sheltered cove offers superior snorkeling conditions with excellent visibility, plus you can walk along the beach to Bournda Island for an adventure. Dolphins are regularly spotted in the bay, and the surrounding Bournda National Park adds stunning coastal scenery. With few visitors even at peak season, it feels like a private slice of paradise — accessed via a short 300m walk from Bournda Circuit or Dolphin Cove Drive.

Moderate risk: No Lifeguard Patrol
Unpatrolled beach with no lifeguard services — swimmers and snorkelers are entirely responsible for their own safety.
Moderate risk: Swell and surf conditions
The beach receives moderate swell year-round. Snorkeling is best on calm days; rough conditions make the water unsafe for snorkelers.
Moderate risk: Changing tides
Tidal changes can affect the walkable sand strip to Bournda Island, potentially stranding visitors on the island side at high tide.
Low risk: Surf Conditions
Surf can pick up significantly here, creating strong shore break and challenging entry/exit conditions for swimmers and snorkelers.
Low risk: Rip Currents
Beach may develop rip currents when swell increases, particularly around the southern end near the cove.
Low risk: Rocky Reef at Entry
Entry points via stairs lead to areas with submerged rocks and reef; care needed when entering and exiting the water.
Low risk: Southerly swell wrap
During large southerly swells, waves can wrap around the headland into Dolphin Cove, creating unexpected surge conditions.
Low risk: Rip current at North Tura Beach
The adjacent North Tura Beach can develop rip currents, especially after southerly swells; swimmers should stay within the sheltered cove.
Low risk: Rocky shore entry
The entry at the northern side involves navigating a mix of sand and scattered rocks; care needed on the descent, particularly at low tide when rocks are exposed.
Low risk: Rocky headland terrain
The headland features sharp, uneven rock platforms. Slippery when wet, and low tide exploration requires care around rock pools and edges.
Low risk: Rocky headlands
Tura Head and surrounding cliff edges have sharp rocks; rock fishing and walking near edges pose a fall and slip hazard.
Low risk: Remote beach access
No lifeguard patrol or emergency services on site; accessed via stairs only — emergency evacuation would be difficult.
