Dodges Ferry Beach (Tiger Head Beach) sits at the entrance to Pittwater on Frederick Henry Bay, a 3 km stretch of low, narrow sand backed by colourful boat sheds and jetties. The real snorkeling gem is at nearby Okines Beach — a protected, west-facing beach with fascinating rock formations, shallow calm waters ideal for beginners, and magical rock pools teeming with small sea life. Spectacular sunsets over Seven Mile Beach and a sandstone ledge provide excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities in this family-friendly Tasmanian seaside community.

Low risk: Tidal currents near entrance channel
At Tiger Head near the Pittwater entrance channel, strong tidal currents can sweep past the flats, especially during outgoing tides. Snorkelers should stay within the sheltered sections of Okines Beach or Tiger Head Bay.
Low risk: Boat traffic in summer
Summertime boat traffic from the boat ramp, jetties and moored vessels in Tiger Head Bay.
Low risk: Cold water temperatures
Cooler water temperatures typical of Tasmanian temperate waters year-round. A wetsuit is recommended for extended snorkeling sessions.
Low risk: Slippery rocks and boulders
Low rocks and boulder outcrops dividing sections of the beach can be slippery when wet and pose a tripping hazard when entering or exiting the water.
