Divided Island is a tiny 6-hectare coral cay in the Keppel Bay Islands, part of the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Surrounded by fringing reefs and shallow clear waters, this remote island offers exceptional snorkelling right off its sandy beaches. The reef flats are rich with hard and soft corals, and the isolation means you'll often have the entire reef system to yourself. The island's unique east-west split — which gives it its name — creates two distinct shorelines to explore, with bommies and coral gardens teeming with marine life just metres from the water's edge.

Moderate risk: Tidal currents in Keppel Bay
Strong tidal currents can sweep through the channels between islands in Keppel Bay, particularly during tidal changes. Snorkelers should be aware of incoming/outgoing tides.
Moderate risk: Marine stingers (jellyfish)
Marine stingers (box jellyfish and Irukandji) are present in Queensland coastal waters during the warmer months.
Low risk: Remote location — no facilities or shade
The island has no facilities, potable water, or shade structures — sun exposure and dehydration are real risks.
Low risk: Sharp coral and rocky reef edges
Coral and rocky reef edges close to shore can cause cuts and scrapes if swimmers are not careful entering or exiting the water.
