Crystal Palace is a spectacular dive and snorkel site located roughly 850 metres southwest of Dyer Island, part of the Rottnest Island group off Perth. This submerged limestone reef system rises from the seafloor and features an intricate network of swim-throughs, caverns, and overhangs that scatter sunlight into shimmering crystal-like patterns—hence the name. The reef ranges from 8 to 18 metres deep, offering snorkelers a dramatic underwater seascape of ledges and sandy gullies to explore. Surrounded by the clear, temperate waters of a marine park, it's a favourite for spotting large reef fish, western rock lobsters, and colourful soft corals.

Moderate risk: Swell exposure
Crystal Palace sits in open water southwest of Dyer Island and can be affected by large swells, especially in winter months, creating surge through swim-throughs and reducing visibility.
Low risk: Boat traffic
The site is accessed by boat and lies in a transit corridor near Rottnest Island. Snorkelers must be vigilant for vessels entering and leaving the area.
Low risk: Strong currents
Tidal currents can sweep through the channels around Dyer Island and over the reef, requiring reasonable fitness and confidence in the water.
Low risk: Depth range
The reef drops from 8 m to 18 m with steep edge drop-offs. Snorkelers should be comfortable in deeper open water and stay within their limits.
