Cracker Jack is a signature dive and snorkel site along the northern Ribbon Reefs of the Great Barrier Reef, reachable only by liveaboard expedition from Cairns. This outer reef gem features steep coral-covered walls that drop to a sandy bottom at around 40 metres, with bommies and ledges cloaked in vivid hard and soft corals. Its remote location means fewer visitors and exceptional water clarity, offering snorkellers the chance to drift over pristine coral gardens among schools of tropical fish, barracuda, giant trevally, and the occasional turtle or reef shark. The site is a highlight of multi-day reef trips and is celebrated for its rich marine biodiversity and dramatic underwater topography.

Moderate risk: Strong Currents & Exposed Conditions
The site is on the outer Ribbon Reefs, several hours from Cairns, with potential for strong currents and wind chop, especially in winter and during southeasterly trade winds.
Low risk: Marine Stingers
Marine stingers (box jellyfish and Irukandji) are present in tropical Queensland waters during the warmer months (Nov–May).
Low risk: Sudden Deep Drop-offs
The reef features steep drop-offs and bommies; snorkellers should stay aware of depth changes and avoid straying beyond their comfort zone.
