Cottage By The Sea Reef, at the end of Swanston Street in Queenscliff, is widely considered the finest shore-entry snorkel site on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula. This rocky reef platform faces southwest into Lonsdale Bay, Port Phillip, and at low tide reveals an underwater world of sculpted rock walls, bommies, ledges and swim-throughs. The reef slopes to around 9 m depth with a prominent rock wall about 50 m from shore. Abundant fish life, cuttlefish, crayfish, and even sea dragons are regularly spotted here. Weather-dependent swell and current can roll in from the Heads, so pick a calm day for the best experience.
