Nestled at the northern end of an 80-metre stretch of dazzling white sand within the Bay of Fires Conservation Area, Cosy Corner North Beach is a snorkeler's slice of coastal paradise. Crystal-clear turquoise waters lap against sculptured granite boulders coated in vivid orange lichen, creating one of Tasmania's most photogenic shorelines. The protected rocky point at the beach's north end shelters the shallows, making for calm, clear conditions ideal for exploring the rocky reef margins. Part of the legendary Bay of Fires, this spot offers pristine marine waters, free beachside camping, and a wonderfully uncrowded vibe.

Moderate risk: Swell and rip currents
East-facing exposure to the Tasman Sea means occasional strong swells and rips, especially during southerly wind events.
Moderate risk: Swell exposure from Tasman Sea
The beach faces east into the Tasman Sea and can experience occasional surf swells that create strong shore dumps and rips.
Moderate risk: Rip currents
When swell is present, rip currents can develop along the beach, particularly near the rocky points at either end.
Moderate risk: No lifeguard patrol
Unguarded beach with no lifesaving services. Snorkelers must exercise personal responsibility.
Low risk: Rocky Reef
Granite boulders and rocky reef formations lie just offshore and at the beach edges; care needed when entering and exiting the water.
Low risk: Swell and Surf Conditions
Cosy Corner can receive ocean swell, particularly in winter months, creating occasional rip currents and dumping waves near the rocky points.
Low risk: Variable Wind Protection
The rocky point provides shelter from some winds, but strong south-westerlies can create choppy conditions reducing visibility.
Low risk: Surf conditions
The beach can have small surf that changes quickly; match swimming ability to conditions as waves can be dangerous for inexperienced swimmers.
Low risk: Remote access
Limited mobile reception and no on-site emergency services. Take safety precautions.
