Coogee Beach is a sweeping 4-kilometre stretch of turquoise-fringed coastline in Perth's southern suburbs, home to the famous Coogee Maritime Trail. The standout attraction is the wreck of the Omeo — a 1905 steamer that lies just 25 metres offshore in only 2.5–5 metres of water, making it one of Western Australia's most accessible shipwreck snorkels. The circular underwater trail weaves past the wreck, submerged art installations, and sculptures while colourful reef fish and the occasional stingray glide through the clear, sheltered waters. Protected from ocean swell by nearby reefs, the beach offers calm, family-friendly conditions ideal for novice snorkellers and experienced divers alike.

Moderate risk: Sharp wreckage and submerged objects
The Omeo wreck and submerged sculptures have sharp metal edges and protrusions; swimmers should wear protective footwear and avoid touching.
Low risk: Afternoon sea breeze chop
Westerly sea breezes (Fremantle Doctor) can create choppy surface conditions and drifting, particularly in the afternoon.
Low risk: Watercraft traffic
Boat traffic in the channel near Jervoise Bay Sailing Club, especially during the sailing season (October to May).
Low risk: Boat traffic near maritime trail
The Coogee Maritime Trail is used by boats and jet skis; snorkellers should stay within the marked trail buoys.
Low risk: Swell and wind chop
Onshore winds can create choppy conditions; best snorkelled on calm, low-wind days (summer mornings ideal).
