Coobowie (Nharangga: Guubawi, meaning "Deception Bay") is a sleepy coastal hamlet on the eastern shore of Yorke Peninsula, facing the calm, protected waters of Gulf St Vincent. Its long, gently sloping sandy beach is one of the safest swimming beaches on the peninsula, ideal for wade-in shore snorkeling. The shallow nearshore waters host seagrass meadows and scattered rocky patches where blue swimmer crabs, spider crabs, stingrays, and fiddler rays are frequently seen. With its relaxed pace, beachside caravan park, and proximity to the jetties of Edithburgh and Stansbury, Coobowie is a convenient base for exploring the Yorke's underwater world.

Low risk: Sharp shells and rocks
Shallow nearshore areas may contain scattered shells and small rocks near the sand patches. Wearing reef shoes is recommended.
Low risk: Boat traffic near shore
Small recreational boats and fishing vessels operate in the bay; stay aware of boat activity, especially near the beach access points.
Low risk: Outgoing tide flats
At low tide the water recedes a long way from shore, exposing extensive tidal flats. Snorkelers can become stranded far from deep water if the tide goes out.
Low risk: Shallow seagrass areas
Large patches of seagrass close to shore can reduce visibility and present entanglement risk for fins.
Low risk: Fishing activity
Fishing lines and hooks from anglers on the jetty can pose entrapment risks.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Small boats may operate near the jetty; keep an eye out for vessels.
