Collier Rocks is a remote island group within the Dampier Archipelago, a chain of 42 islands off the Pilbara coast of Western Australia. These granitic and limestone islets are fringed with coral reefs and crystal-clear turquoise waters, offering exceptional snorkeling directly from the beach. The shallow, warm waters are abundant with hard and soft corals, tropical fish, turtles, rays, and nudibranchs. Accessible only by private boat from Dampier (about a 4-hour trip), the site rewards adventurers with pristine, uncrowded snorkeling, beach camping for up to five nights, and a true wilderness experience bordering UNESCO World Heritage listed Murujuga National Park.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Moderate risk: Tidal currents

Strong tidal flows can sweep through channels between islands, particularly on outgoing tides. Snorkel on slack tide for safest conditions.

  • Moderate risk: Remote location

Collier Rocks is accessible only by boat, with no on-site emergency services or facilities. Self-sufficiency and advance trip planning are essential.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

Recreational and charter vessels operate in the Dampier Archipelago. Snorkelers should display a dive flag and remain vigilant.

  • Low risk: Marine stingers

Box jellyfish and other marine stingers may be present in warmer months (October to May). Wear a stinger suit for protection.

  • Low risk: Sharp coral and rocks

Shallow fringing reefs have sharp coral formations. Wear reef shoes or fins and avoid standing on or touching coral.
