Coalmine Beach, on the shores of the protected Nornalup Inlet in Western Australia's Walpole Wilderness region, offers calm, shallow waters ideal for family snorkelling. Nestled between tingle and karri forests, the beach faces the inlet rather than the open ocean, making it a safe, sheltered snorkelling environment. The beach is part of the Walpole-Nornalup Marine Park, with sandy-bottomed shallows and the tranquil inlet waters providing good visibility. Surrounded by five national parks, this spot combines pristine nature with easy access from the adjacent holiday park.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Outgoing tide current

The Nornalup Inlet is connected to the Southern Ocean via the Irwin Inlet mouth. Tidal movements can create gentle currents near the entrance, especially during outgoing tides.

  • Low risk: Cold water temperatures

Southern coastal waters remain cold year-round. Wetsuits are recommended for comfort.

  • Low risk: Jellyfish

Jellyfish may be present in the inlet during warmer months.
