Tucked among the dramatic volcanic sea stacks of Cathedral Rocks on the Kiama Coast Walk, these natural rock pools offer an idyllic wild-swimming experience. Carved into columnar basalt platforms, the crystal-clear turquoise pools are surrounded by towering rock walls and the constant crash of Southern Ocean waves. The main enclosed pool sits in the shadow of the cathedral-like stacks, providing a calm, deep sanctuary for a relaxing float. Access is via a short walk across Jones Beach and the rocky platform — best timed 1.5 hours either side of low tide.

Moderate risk: Rogue waves
Even in calm conditions, large surge waves can wash into the rock pools, especially the semi-open pool. Observe conditions for several minutes before entering.
Moderate risk: Tidal cut-off
Access channels across the rock platforms become impassable at high tide, risking stranding. Best visited 1.5 hours either side of low tide.
Moderate risk: Strong currents in channels
The narrow channels between rock platforms can carry strong tidal currents, making swimming in open pools hazardous.
Low risk: Slippery rock platforms
Wet basalt rock platforms can be very slippery, especially when crossing channels or climbing between pools.
