Castle Rock Bay sits within the striking Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park in Western Australia's Southwest Capes region, a dramatic stretch of coastline where the Indian Ocean meets granite headlands. This exposed bay offers a wild snorkeling experience shaped by the powerful Southern Ocean swells that sweep the Cape-to-Cape track. The underwater terrain is defined by granite boulders, rocky reef ledges, and kelp forests that shelter abundant marine life. The bay takes its name from the prominent rocky outcrop that marks its northern edge, providing a landmark visible from the Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin lighthouse walk. Best entered on calm summer days when the swell subsides, Castle Rock Bay rewards adventurous snorkelers with gin-clear water over a dynamic seascape of gutters and granite slabs shaped by millennia of wave action.

Moderate risk: Southern Ocean swell
Powerful swell from the Southern Ocean can create dangerous surging conditions along the rocky shoreline, particularly during winter months.
Moderate risk: Strong rip currents
Rip currents can develop between granite headlands and reef ledges, capable of sweeping swimmers offshore.
Low risk: Sharp reef and granite boulders
Submerged granite boulders and limestone reef are sharp and barnacle-encrusted; cuts and abrasions are common without proper footwear.
