Where the Daintree Rainforest literally meets the Great Barrier Reef, Cape Tribulation's fringing reef lies just offshore from a stunning sweep of golden sand backed by ancient rainforest-clad mountains. The fringing coral formations are part of the inner Great Barrier Reef, accessible only by boat — with Ocean Safari running fast RIB tours from the beach to pristine snorkel sites at Mackay Reef and Sand Cay. Here, in crystal-clear Coral Sea waters, you can swim alongside sea turtles, eagle rays, and giant clams while gazing back at the untouched coastal rainforest — two World Heritage areas side by side. The reef is remarkably pristine due to its remote location, offering a rare combination of rich coral gardens and abundant marine life in a setting that feels genuinely wild and remote.
