Cape Jervis marks the wild western edge of the Fleurieu Peninsula where the Southern Ocean meets Gulf St Vincent. The coastline here features rocky headlands, secluded sandy coves like Blowhole Beach, and kelp-forested reefs. The area borders Deep Creek National Park, offering dramatic cliff-backed shorelines and clear oceanic water. Snorkelers can explore shallow reef habitats, rock platforms, and sandy gutters teeming with temperate marine life. The exposed coastal setting provides excellent visibility on calm days but demands careful attention to conditions and swell.

Moderate risk: Strong rips and currents
Blowhole Beach and adjacent coastal areas often have strong rip currents that can sweep swimmers out to sea. Only enter on calm days.
Moderate risk: Southern Ocean swell
Exposed to powerful Southern Ocean swells year-round. Rough conditions and surging waves can make entry and exit dangerous.
Low risk: Remote access
Blowhole Beach requires a steep 4WD track or a 2 km walk from Cobbler Hill carpark, with limited mobile reception.
Low risk: Sharp reef and rock platforms
Intertidal and subtidal reef edges are sharp barnacle-encrusted rock. Booties or dive boots recommended for shore entry.
