Moderate risk: Swell and surf zones
The exposed coastline can experience significant swell, particularly on southerly winds, creating strong shore-dump and surge conditions near rock ledges.
Moderate risk: Rip currents
Powerful rips can form between the headlands and sandbars, especially after larger swell events.
Low risk: Sharp reef and rock platforms
Intertidal rock platforms and sub-tidal reef edges have sharp barnacle-encrusted surfaces that can cause cuts.
Low risk: Southern Ocean temperature
Water temperatures range 12–17°C year-round, with rapid cold upwelling possible; prolonged immersion risk without appropriate wetsuit.
