Brampton Island sits at the southern entrance of the Whitsunday Passage, a 770-hectare national park island surrounded by fringing coral reefs. The passage between Brampton and neighbouring Carlisle Island is known as the "Fishbowl" — a renowned snorkelling site where clear, sheltered waters reveal vibrant coral gardens teeming with reef sharks, turtles, and dazzling tropical fish. Twelve golden-sand beaches fringe the island, and the calm leeward side offers excellent shore-entry snorkelling directly off the sand. The island's fringing reefs are part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, making it a pristine, off-the-beaten-path snorkelling destination.

Moderate risk: Tidal currents in Fishbowl passage
Tidal currents of up to 3 metres range flow through the Fishbowl passage between Brampton and Carlisle Islands, creating strong, fast-moving water during incoming and outgoing tides.
Low risk: Outgoing tide current
Strong tidal currents can flow through the channel between Keswick and surrounding islands, especially during outgoing tide.
Low risk: Marine stingers
Marine stingers (jellyfish) are present in tropical Queensland waters, particularly during the warmer months.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Boat traffic in the bay during peak tour times requires awareness when snorkeling.
Low risk: Remote location — no facilities
The island is remote with no resort facilities, emergency services, or lifeguards. Snorkelers must be self-sufficient.
Low risk: Sharp coral
Sharp coral and reef rock in shallow snorkeling areas can cause cuts and scrapes.
