Bondi Beach, Australia's most famous stretch of golden sand, fronts a sheltered crescent bay on Sydney's eastern suburbs. While primarily known for surf, the southern end near the rocks offers a surprisingly good snorkeling zone where novice swimmers can explore shallow gutters and rocky platforms. The clear inshore waters are protected from the main swell by the headland, and guided tours run by Dive Bondi lead small groups to spot octopus, seahorses, blue gropers, and rays. Facilities are world-class with showers, toilets, lifeguard patrols, and multiple cafes steps from the sand. Swim between the flags and stick to the calmer southern corner for the best visibility.

Moderate risk: Rip currents
Bondi is known for strong rip currents, especially at the northern end. Always swim between the patrol flags.
Low risk: Surf swell
Ocean swell can produce dumping waves and sudden surge, reducing visibility and making entry/exit hazardous.
Low risk: Marine stingers
Bluebottles (Portuguese man o' war) are common in summer, especially when northeasterly winds blow them inshore.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Ribs and jet skis operate year-round outside the flagged swim zone; snorkeling areas near the southern rocks can see occasional boat passage.
