Boat Beach is a secluded sandy gem tucked into the southern side of the Seal Rocks headland on the NSW Mid-North Coast. What makes it extraordinary is the rocky outcrop just 100 m offshore — step off the sand into clear, temperate water and you're immediately surrounded by a thriving reef ecosystem. This is one of the very few places in Australia where you can walk directly from the beach and snorkel alongside grey nurse sharks, which aggregate here year-round. The protected cove setting offers calm conditions when the swell is low, making it a peaceful escape for those willing to descend the stairs from the headland carpark.

Moderate risk: Swell-driven currents around reef
Swell from the east can create strong and unpredictable currents around the offshore rocky outcrop, especially on rising tide.
Moderate risk: Unpatrolled beach
The beach is not patrolled. No lifeguards or flags.
Low risk: Shark presence (grey nurse, Port Jackson, wobbegong)
Sharks including grey nurse, Port Jackson, and wobbegongs are present year-round. Generally not aggressive but swimmers should maintain awareness.
Low risk: Steep stair access
Access involves a steep set of stairs from the headland carpark down to the beach, which can be slippery when wet.

Getting in
From Forster, take The Lakes Way north towards Pacific Palms. Turn right onto Seal Rocks Road and follow it to the village. Just before the Beach Road turn-off, look for a small carpark on the headland above Boat Beach. A short steep staircase leads down to the sand.
Small carpark on the headland above the beach; some roadside parking available on Seal Rocks Road nearby.
