Boambee Creek Reserve sits at the calm, tidal estuary of Boambee Creek near Sawtell on the Coffs Coast. Protected from ocean swell, the reserve offers shallow, kid-safe waters ideal for snorkeling and paddling. Float with the incoming tide past mangroves and over sand flats where stingrays patrol and luderick graze in ribbon grass. The crystal-clear estuarine water reveals darting whiting, cruising flathead, and crabs scuttling across the sandbanks, while ospreys and Brahminy kites soar overhead. Accessible from the reserve's grassy picnic area, this is a sheltered, family-friendly snorkeling spot where the peaceful backwaters meet rich estuarine marine life.

Moderate risk: Outgoing Tide Current
The outgoing tide can create strong currents that sweep snorkelers toward the ocean beyond the railway bridge. Always check tide tables and time your swim with the incoming tide or slack water.
Low risk: Tidal Fluctuation
Water depth changes dramatically with the tide — shallow at low tide, deeper at high tide. Snorkeling is best on a rising tide when water clarity is highest.
Low risk: Stingrays
Stingrays commonly patrol the shallow sand flats. Shuffle your feet when walking to avoid startling them, and give them space if spotted.
