Tucked away on the ocean side of Freycinet National Park, Bluestone Bay is a secluded cove famous for its smooth, rounded bluestone boulders that tumble into crystal-clear temperate waters. Accessible via a short 4WD track off Cape Tourville Road, this little-visited gem offers excellent shore-entry snorkelling over rocky reef habitat with patches of sand. The bay is sheltered from prevailing winds, often delivering calm, clear conditions that reveal the vivid colours of the rocks below. Its remote feel and pristine water make it a peaceful escape from busier park spots.

Moderate risk: Swell surge on ocean side
Being on the exposed ocean side of the Freycinet Peninsula, occasional swell can create surge conditions around the rocks.
Low risk: Slippery bluestone boulders
The smooth, rounded boulders that give the bay its name become extremely slippery when wet, requiring careful footing during entry and exit.
Low risk: 4WD access track
The access road is a rough 4WD track; standard vehicles may struggle and walking the few kilometres in is an alternative.
Low risk: Limited phone reception
Remote location with very limited mobile phone coverage; visitors should be self-sufficient.
