Stretching 3.6 km from Redbill Beach to Rice Pebble Beach, the Bicheno Foreshore Footway links a series of stunning east-coast Tasmanian beaches with gin-clear waters. This scenic coastal walkway offers access to sheltered sandy coves perfect for snorkeling, including Waubs Beach (patrolled in summer) and the calm shallows near The Gulch. The crystal-clear temperate waters reveal rocky reefs, seagrass beds, and vibrant underwater life, with Governor Island Marine Reserve just offshore offering world-class temperate reef diving. The footway also passes the iconic Bicheno Blowhole and provides access to Diamond Island's famous sandbar at low tide.

Moderate risk: Outgoing Tide Current at The Gulch
The narrow channel at The Gulch between Bicheno's islands can produce swift outgoing tidal flows. Snorkelers should be mindful of currents pulling toward the open ocean.
Low risk: Cold Water Temperatures
Tasmanian east coast waters range from 12-19°C year-round. A wetsuit (3-5mm) is strongly recommended for comfort and safety during snorkeling.
Low risk: Swell and Surf Conditions
Redbill Beach and exposed sections can experience moderate to strong swells, creating challenging conditions for inexperienced swimmers and snorkelers.
Low risk: Sharp Reef and Rocky Shoreline
The foreshore features rugged granite and dolerite rock platforms with sharp edges. Reef shoes or booties are recommended for entering and exiting the water.
