The southern section of the Bay of Fires, stretching 13 km from Binalong Bay to The Gardens, is a stunning coastal conservation area where brilliant white sandy beaches meet crystalline azure seas. Iconic orange lichen-covered granite boulders frame the shoreline, creating a breathtaking backdrop for snorkeling. This section includes Jeanneret Beach, Swimcart Beach, Cosy Corner, and Sloop Point — each offering calm, sheltered granite-fringed coves with reef platforms ideal for discovering underwater life. Part of the larger Bay of Fires Conservation Area, it is one of Tasmania's most celebrated coastal gems.

Moderate risk: Remote Beaches
Many beaches in the southern section lack facilities and are remote; limited mobile reception and no lifeguard patrols mean self-reliance is essential.
Low risk: Rip Currents
Rip currents can form at Jeanneret Beach (running out against southern rocks during higher waves) and at exposed east-facing beaches like Sloop Point where a permanent southern rip runs just outside the rocks.
Low risk: Swell Waves
Waves averaging about 1 m at exposed sections can create stronger surf conditions, particularly at Swimcart Beach and the main beach at Sloop Point.
Low risk: Granite Reefs
Submerged granite boulders and reef platforms off Cosy Corner and around headlands can present a bumping hazard for snorkelers, especially in low visibility or swell.
