The Bay of Fires boat-accessible dive sites off the coast of Binalong Bay offer world-class underwater experiences among offshore reefs, granite pinnacles, and vibrant sponge gardens along Tasmania's stunning north-east coast. Accessed by charter boat from Binalong Bay or St Helens, these sites feature dramatic drop-offs, kelp forests, and abundant marine biodiversity in waters that range from 5–40m deep. The orange-lichen-coated granite boulders above give way to colourful sponge-covered reefs below, with excellent visibility in Tasmania's clean Southern Ocean waters. These remote, wild sites suit experienced snorkellers and divers who can handle cool temperate conditions and variable sea states.

Moderate risk: Strong currents
Tidal currents can run strongly between headlands and around offshore reef structures, requiring good fitness and awareness.
Moderate risk: Strong Ocean Currents
Offshore reefs and pinnacle sites can experience strong, unpredictable currents that require good fitness and experience.
Moderate risk: Variable Sea Conditions
The east coast can be affected by swells from the NE–SE directions, making boat access weather-dependent and potentially rough.
Low risk: Ocean swell and surge
Exposed offshore reefs can experience moderate to heavy swell, creating surge conditions around the granite boulders and caves.
Low risk: Cold water temperature
Southern Ocean waters remain cool year-round; even in summer a wetsuit (5mm+) is essential for comfort and safety.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Access is by boat only; snorkelers must be vigilant of tour boats, fishing vessels, and dive boats operating in the area.
Low risk: Cool Water Temperatures
Water temperatures range from 11–18°C year-round, requiring a 7mm wetsuit or drysuit for comfort and safety.
Low risk: Steep Drop-offs
Many sites feature sheer walls and drop-offs into deep water beyond recreational snorkelling depths.
