Bathers Beach is a sheltered 300-metre stretch of white sand hugging Fremantle's historic West End, just steps from the iconic Round House. Its calm, turquoise waters are protected by the new Manjaree swimming enclosure (a 310-metre shark barrier installed in late 2025), making it one of the safest shore-entry snorkel spots in the Perth region. The beach backs onto lively bars, cafes, and the Fishing Boat Harbour — perfect for post-snorkel fish and chips at sunset. Sheltered from the prevailing swell by the harbour walls, the sandy seabed and patches of seagrass offer clear, gentle conditions ideal for beginners and families.

Know before you go

Logged by the community, confirmed by mods

  • Low risk: Shark presence (mitigated by enclosure)

An Eco Shark Barrier (Manjaree enclosure) has been installed to greatly reduce shark risk, but occasional sightings still possible beyond the enclosure boundary.

  • Low risk: Bluebottle jellyfish

Bluebottle jellyfish (Portuguese man o' war) can drift into the beach on northerly winds, particularly over summer months.

  • Low risk: Variable water clarity

Variable water clarity due to sandy bottom stirred up by wind or boat traffic.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic in harbour

Proximity to Fishing Boat Harbour means occasional boat traffic near the swimming area.

  • Low risk: Limited swim enclosure

While a new swimming enclosure has been installed, swimmers should stay within designated areas for safety.

  • Low risk: Rocks and groyne

The area near the rocks and groyne can have uneven footing and sharp structures; best suited for more confident swimmers.

  • Low risk: Currents outside enclosure

Stronger currents may develop beyond the swimming enclosure along the mole (breakwater) where snorkelers often venture.

  • Low risk: Boat traffic

Small boat traffic in the adjacent Fishing Boat Harbour and Fremantle port area.
