Bald Rock Point marks the eastern tip of Great Keppel Island in the Southern Great Barrier Reef, crowned by a historic lighthouse and surrounded by fringing coral reefs. Accessible via a 3-hour return hike from Fisherman's Beach, this headland offers snorkelers crystal-clear waters with healthy coral bommies, colourful reef fish, and the occasional green sea turtle. The exposed ocean-side reef drops off into deeper channels where currents bring nutrient-rich water, making the marine life especially vibrant. The remote location means fewer crowds and pristine conditions — a true off-the-beaten-path snorkel experience on one of the most beautiful islands in the Keppel Bay group.

Moderate risk: Outgoing tide current
Strong tidal currents can run through the channels between Great Keppel and Humpy Island, particularly on the outgoing tide near Bald Rock Point's exposed eastern side.
Moderate risk: Box jellyfish / marine stingers
Marine stingers (box jellyfish) are present in Keppel Bay waters during the warmer months (October to May).
Low risk: Ocean swell and surf
The ocean swell from the Coral Sea can create moderate to strong surf conditions on the exposed eastern headland, especially during winter trade winds.
Low risk: Sharp coral / rocky substrate
Coral and rocky seafloor near the headland can be sharp; cut-resistant reef shoes recommended.
