Anchor Bommie is a spectacular dive and snorkel site off Lady Elliot Island, at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. Sitting at 9 metres depth, the site features a large admiralty anchor resting beside a coral bommie, both heavily encrusted with vibrant soft corals, sea fans, and anemones. It is renowned as a prime manta ray cleaning station, where these gentle giants glide in to be groomed by cleaner wrasse. The bommie teems with colourful anthias, anemone shrimp, and Durban hinge-beaked shrimp, while turtles, reef sharks, and schools of fusiliers and trevally patrol the surrounding waters. Crystal-clear visibility often exceeds 20 metres, making this an unforgettable snorkel experience.
