Rising from the sandy seabed in just 8m of water, the Aldinga Pinnacles are ancient limestone columns sculpted into towers, arches, and swim-throughs that feel like a drowned cathedral. Shafts of sunlight filter between the pillars onto vibrant sponge and kelp-coated rock, while schools of zebra fish, magpie perch, and dusky morwong drift among the formations. Part of the Aldinga Reef Aquatic Reserve, this sheltered offshore site offers some of the clearest conditions close to Adelaide, with nooks and caves sheltering crayfish, nudibranchs, and camouflaged wobbegong sharks.

Moderate risk: Cold water temperatures
Winter water temperatures drop to 9-13°C (48-55°F), posing cold-water risks without proper thermal protection.
Low risk: Ocean swell exposure
The site can be affected by ocean swell which reduces visibility and creates surge through the pinnacle swim-throughs.
Low risk: Boat traffic
Access is by boat (no shore entry), requiring awareness of other vessels in the area.
Low risk: Strong kelp growth
Dense kelp canopies can entangle fins and obscure entry/exit points on the reef.
