Aireys Inlet offers accessible shore snorkelling along Victoria's dramatic Surf Coast, where the Great Ocean Road meets golden beaches framed by rugged sandstone cliffs. The protected waters near Eagle Rock Marine Sanctuary are the main draw, with shallow rocky reefs and tide pools teeming with life. Sandy Gully and Step Beach provide easy beach entry points, while the iconic Split Point Lighthouse watches over the coastline. With crystal-clear conditions on calm days, this is one of the most scenic shore-snorkel spots on the Great Ocean Road.

Moderate risk: Swell and surf conditions
The Surf Coast receives Southern Ocean swells that can create strong shorebreak and rip currents, especially at open beaches.
Moderate risk: Rip currents
Unpatrolled beaches in the area can have rip currents forming in troughs between sandbars.
Low risk: Sharp reef and rock platforms
Intertidal rock platforms and reef edges can be razor-sharp. Cuts and scrapes are common when entering or exiting.
Low risk: Changing tides
Tidal movements can rapidly change water depth and expose or submerge reef areas, affecting entry and exit points.
