Stretching for 90 miles (145 km) along Victoria's Gippsland coast between Lakes Entrance and Sale, Ninety Mile Beach is a wild, exposed stretch of the Bass Strait shoreline. This immense sandy beach borders the Gippsland Lakes system and is part of the Ninety Mile Beach Marine National Park. The shallow inshore waters are known for strong wave action, rips, and shifting sandbars, making it a challenging snorkeling location best suited to experienced swimmers. While visibility can be variable due to wave action, the marine park protects a range of temperate reef life and is an important breeding area for hooded plovers.
